My heart
was hard as iron.
I tore into His hands.
My soul was cold and empty,
A sea of selfish plans.
His love and gentle goodness
Were more than I could claim.
I joined the crowd of mockers
And crowned Him with my shame.
He claimed
to be from heaven.
We rose and hung Him high.
In rage I swung the hammer,
Then stood to watch Him die.
I listened in the darkness
To hear some bitter cry.
He prayed for our forgiveness.
The name He spoke was mine.
My God,
I'll never grasp it,
This love I long denied.
You rose into my darkness,
The dawn of light and life.
My Lord, I live to thank You!
What words could be enough?
Make all my grateful being
An endless song of love!
